Whatever your feelings about reality TV, MTV practically invented it with The Real World. It may never have been as un-scripted as it pretended to be, but it was still a fairly radical departure from canned laughter-filled sitcoms and other mindless filler of TV past. After umpteen seasons, the producers finally gave our own Mile High Club its long overdue close up last year. Where did the cast stumble when they wanted to get their drink on? LoDo’s Monarck Lounge seemed to be a particular favorite.
National television exposure certainly hasn’t hurt Monarck’s numbers much. In fact, it has even enabled LoDo lounge mogul Francois Saffieddine to recently debut the crown jewel in his growing empire, 24k. In Monarck’s attic, 24k is a non-membership, bottle service only discotheque decorated primarily in gold. Adorning the walls are sizeable, backlit portraits of former Mile High Club singer/dancer/designer Chandiss, taken by San Diego-based photographer Andrew Fashion. The kicker? Gold body paint and a G-string is the most she is wearing in any of them. The G-string is even absent in a few. The images are absolutely stunning. Since migrating to Sin City and then San Diego, Chandiss has had music licensed to MTV, enrolled in school full-time…and crawled around naked in gold body paint, apparently. Interior designer Jeffrey Elliot obviously incorporated other elements into 24k’s internal landscape, but none of them can hold a candle to the collaboration between Fashion and Chandiss. Then again, the girl always was a crowd pleaser.
Considering the average Mile High Clubber hadn’t even heard of bottle service until about five years ago, our expectations sure have come a long way. 24k ups the ante even further by offering exotic fruit-flavored liquor mixers like lychee, mango, guava, passion fruit, and pomegranate. How’s that for VIP treatment? It’s like rolling out the red carpet for your taste buds. If they could talk at all, they would thank you.
“My desire was to create an intimate dance club geared towards a mature
audience that is accustomed to the luxury of a more personalized
experience,” says Safieddine.
