More than 1,100 of Denver’s gorgeous and elite got together at Rotors of the Rockies the night of Sept. 22 for the Platinum Ball, an evening of drinking, dancing, networking and, of course, helicopter rides.
“What other party have you been to where they were giving away helicopter rides?” asked the party’s coordinator, Kevin Larson. Larson has been promoting parties in Denver for over 10 years.
And Kevin didn’t disappoint at this year’s Ball. Along with the large group of Denver socialites (and their very attractive counterparts), the Ball included a slew of entertainment ranging from Chinese dance troupes (such as the Aeriform martial arts dancers), to ex-Cirque du Soleil fire dancers and Geisha girls. Along with the live
entertainment, there was plenty of dance floor for the guests as the acclaimed DJ Brian Howe busted mad beats on the turntables.
“Our parties are all about the people,” Larson said. “In order to make sure everyone has a good time, we specialize in theatrical entertainment.”
The Rotors of the Rockies club provided the perfect launching pad, if you will, bringing in guests not only from Denver and Colorado, but many from out of state as well.
But a party isn’t a party without hosts and sponsors and Larson was quick to point out the importance of the people who made the party happen.
“We had a really good response from all the hosts and five of them have already committed to next year,” Larson said. “The real socialites are the hosts. They’re the movers and the shakers in this town.” There were nearly a dozen hosts, ranging from restaurant owners to investment bankers.
Along with dancing and networking, a party wouldn’t be a party without some booze. Larson thanked Ciroc Vodka, Captain Morgan, Johnny Walker Black, Budweiser and Red Bull, to name a few, for the liquid libations.
“Our crowds are always about the best entertainment and the best booze,” Larson said with a laugh. “Without the sponsors, the party doesn’t happen.”
“After ten years of doing this, we have a novel theory on our end and it’s that we go out of our way to make sure our sponsors are happy and presented and showcased,” Larson added. “The reason we get the sponsors we do is because of 10 years of success.”
Larson hopes to continue that success with a string of parties coming up soon in Denver.
The weekend before Halloween, Larson is planning for his 8th Annual Victorian Fetish Ball, to be held at the Diamond Cabaret, Tabu and a third club area built specially for the evening. And if all the carnal behavior that is bound to be involved isn’t enough to wet your whistle, Larson plans on broadcasting another fetish ball live, at the same time, from Minneapolis. What could be better than scantily clad women from across the nation all at one time? Larson would argue nothing.
Approaching 2008, Larson and Image Magazine, are also busy planning the 6th Annual White Rose Gala, a giant holiday event that spans more 15 hours over New Year’s Eve and the following, fantastic day.
“The White Rose Gala goes along with the same theory as the Platinum Ball,” Larson said. “I mean, who wants to just go out to nightclubs on a Friday and Saturday? So we’re trying to get everyone dressed for success. We want people to get decked out and pull the New Year in with style.”
Larson expects a massive turnout for the event, including several guests from L.A. to Miami to Chicago.
“You just can’t go wrong for (New Year’s),” Larson added. “We want to put Denver on the map in the way of entertainment. We want to prove that we’re not just a cow town anymore.”
