Ring of Fire: Sven Bean

Ultimate fighting promoter Sven Bean likes fighting. That is, he likes promoting professional fighting on a large scale and to a large Denver audience. That’s where Bean’s Ring of Fire comes to life, as Denver’s premiere ultimate fighting showcase.
“Ring of Fire is kind of like the local connection to the Ultimate Fighting Championship,” Bean said. “If fighters do well on my show, they get picked up by the UFC.”
Bean’s Ring of Fire 28 event in December drew over 3,000 fans to the Douglas County Event Center in Castle Rock, and Bean has begun creating a network of fighters that have enlightened Colorado to ultimate fighting on a national and international scale.
“We did that basically with no advertising, just the word of mouth fan base that Ring of Fire has created so far,” Bean said. “I started managing a few players’ careers over the years and that led me to hosting my own shows so that fighters had a place to fight locally and showcase their talents.”
The success has Bean excited about the future of ultimate fighting in Denver, as well as ROF’s next event, which will take place February 16th at the brand new Broomfield Event Center. A former fighter himself, Bean has promoted a number of well-known and powerful fighters from Duane “Bang” Ludwig to Spike TV star Pete “Secret Weapon” Spratt. But as of late, the apple of promoter Bean’s eye has been Denver model, aspiring actor and general man-about-the-town, Andre “The Silencer” Walker.
Walker is a 28-year-old kick boxer and Denver native who is quickly climbing the ranks of the ultimate fighting circuit. Walker is a notorious night-lifer as well, and is quickly climbing the social ladder of Denver’s downtown scene.
“Andre is known for going to clubs and partying as much as he likes to fight,” Bean said. “He’s
a guy that likes to have fun. A lot of readers might recognize Andre’s face.”
It’s a face that is beginning to be feared in the up-and-coming heavyweight division. The 6-foot, 235-pounder has lightning reflexes and a wicked jab from both sides, as well as a physique that screams intimidation.
“He’s shredded, man,” Bean said. “He’s in really good shape. He is, without a doubt, one of the up-and-coming heavyweights.” And while Saturday nights might be alright for fighting, Walker finds the weekends to be a good time for partying, too.
“I love partying,” Walker said. Walker’s favorite hang-outs include clubs such as DC-10, Monarck, 5 Degrees and Hush.
Walker has set aside some of his party ways recently to focus on training for the main card for ROF’s 29th event on Friday, Feb. 16. Walker will fight K-1 veteran Scott Lighty in the main event at the new $45 million Broomfield Event Center.
“I try to look (at training) as taking myself to the dark side,” Walker said. “When I train I train as hard as I can to the point where I feel like I’m going to pass out.”
According to Walker, his nickname “The Silencer” comes from the fact that “they say I’m real quiet but that I put people to sleep.”
And Walker plans on doing the same to Lighty. “I’ve seen Scott Lighty fight and he’s a good fighter,” Walker said. “But I just know I’m going to crush him.”
“The new event center is like a mini Pepsi Center,” Bean said. “It’s a true arena and a top-notch venue and we’re happy to be able to take our event there. For us to have our promotion there is perfect.”

Bean promises the event to be the best one he’s put on so far.
“The main event just happens to be from Denver,” Bean said. “But all of the guys are fighting in hopes of getting their own pay-per-view contract.”
