Electro Spectacle: Fischerspooner
By Orange Peel Moses @ 9:32 PM :: 1142 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
Odyssey, Fischerspooner’s sophomore platter, is, oddly enough, one of my top favorite albums of all time. Pulling a stratospheric single out of your @$$, as the act did with electroclash staple “Emerge” from their #1 debut, always inevitably puts pressure on said act to repeat the feat. Prove they’re not just a one track pony.

Laptop Dance: Tipper
By Orange Peel Moses @ 6:09 AM :: 1304 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
Dave Tipper is a mad scientist of the aural persuasion. Certain tracks of his actually sound like the audio equivalent of chemistry experiments, with bass that bubbles up and gurgles inside the container that is your ear canal.

Hindsight: MSTRKRFT @ The Ogden
By Orange Peel Moses @ 12:38 AM :: 1368 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Reviews, Music: Concerts
Flanked by a bank of television screens and tall, LED level meters that shot crisp, electrified bursts of Technicolor into the smoky darkness, (perfectly synched with the ever-more-devastating beats); the crowd was hypnotized from the start. A thousand sweat-drenched revelers exploded with vibed-up energy; hands stretched skyward as they worshiped at the temple of their electro-Canadian clergy.

Hindsight: Bassnectar
By Orange Peel Moses @ 12:04 PM :: 1808 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Reviews, Music: Concerts
Even though Bassnectar was unable to play my Faint request “Fulcrum & Lever” due to laptop nonsense, I could not have been more aurally satisfied unless tiny fairies had massaged my eardrums…“happy ending” style. The underground mastermind has done it again.

Grammar Misfits: The Killers
By Orange Peel Moses @ 5:15 AM :: 1029 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
Since when are rock stars expected to be grammatically correct? Last I checked, the profession in question was about healthy rebellion, about not conforming to society’s norms. Vegas-based band The Killers discovered otherwise recently, when they released their third disc’s first single “Human”. The Grammar Police had a hissy fit.

Bisexual Spectacle: Madonna
By Image Mag Staff @ 11:29 PM :: 710 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Events, Music: Concerts

She’s done it with girls, all over the world; she’s done it with ropes, near the home of The Pope. Even the Kama Sutra is probably old hat by now. In fact, with as much action as Madonna’s had over the last few decades, it’s hard to believe she’s not a card-carrying member of The Mile High Club yet.

Hustler Kamikaze: Mickey Avalon
By Orange Peel Moses @ 7:55 PM :: 689 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
Mickey ended up turning tricks for dope in his most desperate years. These days, he turns phrases for dough. And now his old lady works for him…as one of his managers.

Dark Arts: Sisters of Mercy
By Image Mag Staff @ 3:45 PM :: 684 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
The first time I saw the Sisters in action it was a hallowed experience. The lighting, the fog machine, the drunken loose women, I still have a hard time describing how cool three barely mobile men and a drum machine can be.

Genre Benders: Lotus & BLVD
By Orange Peel Moses @ 11:52 AM :: 644 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
Both bands are cross-genre success stories: Lotus' somehow-rave-o-tronic laptop-free instrumental indie rock bumps crowds into sweating lovely bliss, dual guitars tangling in exultant harmonies over frontman Jesse Miller's driving lead-bass; BLVD plays tight and straight, the SF trio dropping solid beats over which Colorado native MC Souleye spits fiercely inspirational rhymes.

Jungle Fever: Pendulum
By Orange Peel Moses @ 4:33 PM :: 644 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Concerts
Like many adolescents, Gareth McGrillen and Rob Swire had big plans to attract the double-X chromosomes, and, aside from a letter jacket, the best way to home base is via garage band.
