Hindsight: MSTRKRFT @ The Ogden
By Orange Peel Moses @ 12:38 AM :: 1379 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Reviews, Music: Concerts
Flanked by a bank of television screens and tall, LED level meters that shot crisp, electrified bursts of Technicolor into the smoky darkness, (perfectly synched with the ever-more-devastating beats); the crowd was hypnotized from the start. A thousand sweat-drenched revelers exploded with vibed-up energy; hands stretched skyward as they worshiped at the temple of their electro-Canadian clergy.

Hindsight: Bassnectar
By Orange Peel Moses @ 12:04 PM :: 1823 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Reviews, Music: Concerts
Even though Bassnectar was unable to play my Faint request “Fulcrum & Lever” due to laptop nonsense, I could not have been more aurally satisfied unless tiny fairies had massaged my eardrums…“happy ending” style. The underground mastermind has done it again.

Hindsight: New Music Mondays @ Larimer Lounge
By Orange Peel Moses @ 3:46 PM :: 1564 Views :: 0 Comments :: Nightlife, Events, Music: Reviews
Monolith Festival founder Matt Fecher, flying under the DJ Hot to Death moniker, recently decided to try his luck at the same uphill battle. The Larimer Lounge apparently agreed to reap its semi-limited rewards. Numbers have definitely been respectable thus far since its official inception a few weeks ago.

CD Report Card: Guy J
By Image Mag Staff @ 6:46 PM :: 626 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Nightlife, Music: Reviews
Guy J's debut artist album Esperanza (Bedrock Records) is an amazing experience. It's not quite a DJ Mix CD, but it is definitely more than a NOW! compilation. While Israel is widely known for psy-trance, left-field techno, and no-frills house, Guy J sets himself apart from his countrymen by offering an album that reaches across the label barrier.

By Orange Peel Moses @ 12:37 PM :: 618 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Artist Spotlight, Nightlife, Events, Music: Reviews, Music: Concerts
Inspirational speakers always say that the world’s most successful individuals write their goals down. Santi White might’ve taken that principle one step further when she included the word “gold” in her recording alias.

Hindsight: Hush Sound @ The Bluebird
By Image Mag Staff @ 9:07 AM :: 590 Views :: 0 Comments :: Music: Reviews

The Hush Sound has loud and loyal fans, some of whom were a bit intoxicated by the time the band took the stage. They played each song with enthusiasm as each band member’s voice echoed around the crowded theater. I was impressed when the drummer stepped up and took the mic while one of the lead singers took a seat and manned the drums.

Radar Blips: Lemonwilde
By Image Mag Staff @ 11:51 PM :: 598 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Music: Reviews

Henry Pope, my former bassist, migrated westward a few years ago (with my Orange amp in tow) to get closer to the music business.  Pope’s last band Boomerang Politik got name-dropped in URB Magazine’s “Next 100,” and now new band Lemonwilde is getting a little bit of play--airplay, that is--on one of the planet’s finest dial positions--103.1 FM in LA.

The woman behind the silky voice that caught the world’s attention in Apple’s unforgettable “1-2-3-4” commercial earlier this year comes to Denver this month, and the Canadian siren promises to deliver much more than a catchy commercial jingle.

By Image Mag Staff @ 8:20 AM :: 527 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Music: Reviews

Charles Thompson has had a rough time living up to his legendary back catalogue.  The Pixies, which he fronted under stage name number one Black Francis, have been nearly universally lauded by everyone from David Bowie to Kurt Cobain, but his solo career since (mostly under the compromising Frank Black guise) has been somewhat uneven.
