Hindsight: Henry Rollins @ The Boulder Theater

Henry Rollins is a bona fide workaholic. Days off literally frighten the bejesus out of him. Even if Workaholics Anonymous did exist in this capitalist experiment run awry we call a country (an addiction to work doesn’t exactly threaten the cogs like sex or drugs), staging an intervention would be an intimidating task. Rollins is tightly wound, to say the least. Besides, he obviously loves his job. Why rob him of his bliss? Fortunately, he’s one entertaining MoFo. Last night’s self-described “talking show” at The Boulder Theater was sold out for good reason. Subject matter ran the gamut from predictably political fare (Obama’s landslide victory, Oliver Stone’s Duhbya biopic, vacationing in Iran, Duhbya’s upcoming retirement, world hunger) to comparably comical fare (Thanksgiving at William Shatner’s, thorough frisking by airport security, Goat Fuckers 3). Although Rollins once said making fun of Duhbya was akin to punching an 8 year-old (momentarily satisfying, but not something you want to make a career of), the lame duck President has undoubtedly provided some of his most inspired material (comparing Duhbya’s grammar to the poetry of e.e. cummings was especially brilliant), not to mention travel itineraries (whenever Bu$h rattled sabers with a supposedly “evil” country, Rollins immediately applied for a new visa or booked a flight). Will Rollins miss the old "cowboy"? Find out next time, on the Henry Rollins show.
