The post 2 a.m. crowd in LoDo is a wound up bunch, their blood is full of last call thoughtlessness and they want action and plenty of it. Literally, these club dwellers are baying at the moon for a little attention and a “sick @$$” atmosphere. Unfortunately for these poor fools, their options are limited.
Andrew Labbe has delivered to Denver an unpretentious basement hotspot. Located in back of Lime (past the dumpsters), you will find Abode. Chipper staff members are there to greet you at the head of the staircase leading down to the layer of fun. It is a mixed group down there, but no one has anything to prove, everybody just wants to chill out, hook up or get some last minute dancing in before bed time. The bar may be closed, but intoxicating beats emanating from the DJ booth are enough to keep you on your feet instead of flat on your face back at your place.
The hours before 2 a.m. at Abode are a dramatic reminder that the party may begin early, but it doesn't have to end for a very long time. I should also mention that there is pizza to be found there. I mean it. You can spin around in barstools while sharing a pie with a room full of strangers. It doesn’t sound sensible I realize, but somehow it works. Abode has a genuinely subversive atmosphere, it is somewhat reminiscent of what you might find in New York, LA or Branson. The difference here, though, is that you don’t have to feel like you have to be on some list to get in, Abode welcomes all and all who come to Abode are the types of people who love to hang out in some guy’s basement while he shares his favorite tunes.
