Euphonic Conceptions has carved out a solid niche throwing Sound Tribe after parties. Having a monopoly on that niche in the foreseeable future seems easily feasible. What began two or three years ago as an arguably legal sardine fest in Boulder’s warehouse district has since graduated to fully permitted venues and even been franchised to other states. This year’s lineup clearly demonstrates their increasing clout with Sound Tribe’s own cherry-picked openers, as well as a keen eye for emerging circuit favorites. Last night’s surprise special guest was none other than underground mastermind Bassnectar, fresh off his Red Rocks debut with STS9. A capacity-pushing Gothic mob anxiously awaited his set. Bassnectar opened it with a circus sideshow-style beat, eventually transitioning through the gamut of his eclectic repertoire in a shorter than expected slot, including polar opposites Slayer and Justin Timberlake. At this point, the twisted logic that facilitates such seemingly toxic sonic concoctions is simply par for the course. The man lives up to his name, too. Standing in front of Euphonic’s reinforcement subs for a moment was like standing in front of an industrial-strength fan. And although Bassnectar’s death metal posturing could give most axe-tappers a run for their money, I still wonder how the hell he sees his laptop screen through the Cousin It mass of hair that results.

Our crew thought that Bassnectar stole the show! After he was done, we left.
