Radar Blips: Lemonwilde

There’s nothing remotely wild about Lemonwilde.  Citrus isn’t exactly on the tip of my tongue either (linguistically, as opposed to physically).  “Melon-choly” might be more appropriate.  Just because dance music has been my journalistic career focus thus far doesn’t mean I’m incapable of appreciating diverse moods and sonic palettes, though.  Henry Pope, my former bassist, migrated westward a few years ago (with my Orange amp in tow) to get closer to the music business.  Pope’s last band Boomerang Politik got name-dropped in URB Magazine’s “Next 100,” and now new band Lemonwilde is getting a little bit of play--airplay, that is--on one of the planet’s finest dial positions--103.1 FM in LA.  They recently played a wrap party for the upcoming Sarah Michelle Gellar flick Veronica Decides to Die, where none other than Coldplay was in the house.  Lemonwilde vocalist Joseph Murray invokes Grant Lee Buffalo’s semi-obscure lead singer, but few outside record store lifers will have the slightest idea who I’m talking about when I say that (although dude did contribute to a “Choakenfold” platter that mattered to smatters).  Lemonwilde is ambient music for the Ambien generation.  If there’s a breakup on your horizon, Google their YouTube debut “79 Aviatrix.”
